"Demelza House Children's Hospice adds life to days when days
cannot be added to life."
www.demelzahouse.org/ - The only children's residential hospice in Kent, East Sussex and South London providing a wide range of services to life-limited children.

Children's hospices support children and young people who are expected to die before reaching adulthood, and their families. Due to the hereditary nature of many of the children's illnesses, some families may have more than one affected child. In many cases there is no cure. In others, treatment has been tried but failed and the focus has transferred from active to palliative care.

Children's hospices provide the necessary short breaks and a range of services benefiting the children and young people themselves and their wider
family, which are simply not available elsewhere.

A note from the webmaster.

Who is the Buddha, anyway? The Buddha, Siddhartha Gotama, was born about 600 BC, is credited with formulating the Buddhist religion. For a Westerner to understand the man and the religion he developed, one must understand that The Buddha was just that — a man, not a god or kin to a god. The Buddha lived in India over 2500 years ago in what is now Nepal. As a young man living in turbulent times, he became very obsessed with the difficulty of the human condition. In particular, the unavoidable fact that nothing remains the same - that everyone regardless of wealth or stature is subject to old age, death, and personal loss.

Simply stated, everything changes; it's inevitable. Of course, you've heard that before. Not a new concept, especially within religious circles. The difference to the Buddha being that there is no more important truth in life. He built his entire religion around it. He observed how much energy we expend swimming upstream against the rapids of change. It is not our preferences but our attachment to our preferences that are our undoing.

He prescribed a path to follow in order to, well, pace your self, so to speak. Or better yet, to leave yourself behind. It was his belief that in following the path, his level of spiritualism was attainable by all and that every human being had the potential for attaining inner peace. But the path is a whole other topic — 27 volumes worth in fact —a subject for some other platform.

My thanks here are given to the Buddha who expressed that truth so coherently. In doing so, making enough sense out the chaos of every day for me to maintain the energy to devote to this site.

In regard to what relation this all has to with the substance of this site, I find that no one captures the human condition of attachment as eloquently, as precisely, and without judgement as does Mr. McMurtry.
